Rob Jones is a top-order right-handed batsman, who also bowls occasional leg-spin. Born in Cheshire, Jones joined Lancashire’s Academy team in 2012. He debuted for Lancashire’s seam team in 2013 and soon became a part ECB’s Elite Player Development Under 17s side. Jones was named in England’s Under-19 World Cup squad in 2014 which was held in England. He was the second highest run-getter for England in the competition. Consistent performances for second XI in 2015 earned him a place in the Lancashire’s first-team. He made his first-class debut against Surrey in August 2016 as a middle-order batsman. Luke Procter’s illness forced the team management to send the then 20-year-old at the top of the order in only his second FC game. Jones grabbed the opportunity gleefully. In just his third first-class game against the eventual champions - Middlesex - Jones recorded his maiden FC ton, thereby becoming the the youngest Lancashire batsman since Cyril Washbrook in 1935 to carry his bat. He got to the milestone with a six over wide long-on and these were his words after that unforgettable knock, “Words can't describe it. I can't believe it. I love playing for Lancashire, I really do. It's a boyhood dream. I'll savour this, because it's pretty special.” Jones didn’t enjoy success in the following season and he went back to the second XI, where he led his side to championship victory.
