India’s promising young batter, Yashasvi Jaiswal, has decided to continue his domestic cricket journey with Mumbai, withdrawing a previous request to represent Goa for the upcoming season.
INITIAL MOVE TO GOA FOR CAPTAINCY ROLE
Last month, Jaiswal made headlines when he sought a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), expressing his desire to switch allegiances and represent Goa in the domestic circuit. The left-hander cited personal reasons for the move, reportedly due to family plans to relocate to Goa. The proposal also included an enticing offer to lead the Goa side as captain, an opportunity Jaiswal acknowledged as a significant milestone in his career.
"Goa has presented me with a leadership opportunity. My main priority remains performing for India, but during my availability, I intended to contribute to Goa and help take them deeper into the tournament," Jaiswal had stated at the time.
JAISWAL WITHDRAWS NOC, COMMITS TO MUMBAI
In a recent development, Jaiswal has taken a U-turn, opting to stay with his home team, Mumbai. In an official communication to the MCA, he requested the withdrawal of the NOC and reaffirmed his commitment to playing for Mumbai in the upcoming season.
“I, the undersigned, would request your good self to consider my request to withdraw my NOC given to me as I had some family plans to shift to Goa, which for now have been curtailed. So, I sincerely request MCA to allow me to play for Mumbai this season. I have not submitted the NOC to BCCI nor to the Goa Cricket Association,” he wrote in an email quoted by The Indian Express.
NO RESPONSE YET FROM MCA
As of now, the MCA has not officially responded to Jaiswal’s withdrawal request. However, his intent to stay is clear, and barring any administrative hurdles, the 23-year-old is expected to don the Mumbai jersey once again in the upcoming Ranji season.
STELLAR RISE IN INTERNATIONAL CRICKET
Jaiswal’s domestic decision comes on the heels of a remarkable start to his Test career. During India’s recent tour of Australia, he registered a brilliant century and two half-centuries, further cementing his status as one of India’s brightest young talents.
