India's premier fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, has been officially released from the squad for the fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series against England, currently being held at the Kennington Oval, London. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the development on Friday.
BCCI STATEMENT ON BUMRAH’S ABSENCE
In an official statement, the BCCI said:
“Mr Jasprit Bumrah has been released from India’s squad for the fifth Test of the series against England. The fifth and final Test of the series is underway at Kennington Oval, London.”
WORKLOAD MANAGEMENT A PRIORITY
Bumrah, the world’s No. 1 ranked Test bowler, was part of a pre-tour workload management plan. He had informed the team management and selectors that he would be available for only three of the five Tests during the series. Despite speculation leading into the final match that he could be fielded once more especially with the series outcome on the line the team opted to stick to the original plan.
India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir had earlier clarified that there would be no compromise on Bumrah’s workload, stating:
“There will be no compromise on workload,” when asked whether the pacer might play a fourth Test if required.
