India's premier fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, has been officially released from the squad for the fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series against England, currently being held at the Kennington Oval, London. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the development on Friday.

BCCI STATEMENT ON BUMRAH’S ABSENCE

In an official statement, the BCCI said:

“Mr Jasprit Bumrah has been released from India’s squad for the fifth Test of the series against England. The fifth and final Test of the series is underway at Kennington Oval, London.”

WORKLOAD MANAGEMENT A PRIORITY

Bumrah, the world’s No. 1 ranked Test bowler, was part of a pre-tour workload management plan. He had informed the team management and selectors that he would be available for only three of the five Tests during the series. Despite speculation leading into the final match that he could be fielded once more especially with the series outcome on the line the team opted to stick to the original plan.

India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir had earlier clarified that there would be no compromise on Bumrah’s workload, stating:

“There will be no compromise on workload,” when asked whether the pacer might play a fourth Test if required.

CHANGES TO INDIA’S PLAYING XI FOR THE 5TH TEST

India made four changes to their playing XI for the final match at The Oval:

Out:

Jasprit Bumrah

Rishabh Pant

Anshul Kamboj

Shardul Thakur

In:

Prasidh Krishna

Dhruv Jurel

Akash Deep

Karun Nair

The bowling attack is now being led by Mohammed Siraj, with support from a younger pace unit in the absence of Bumrah.

INDIA'S UPDATED SQUAD FOR THE FIFTH TEST

Shubman Gill (Captain)

KL Rahul (Vice-Captain)

Yashasvi Jaiswal

Sai Sudharsan

Abhimanyu Easwaran

Karun Nair

Ravindra Jadeja

Dhruv Jurel (Wicketkeeper)

Washington Sundar

Shardul Thakur

Mohammed Siraj

Prasidh Krishna

Akash Deep

Kuldeep Yadav

Anshul Kamboj

Arshdeep Singh

N Jagadeesan (Wicketkeeper)

LOOKING AHEAD

With the series reaching its climax at The Oval, India has shown faith in its bench strength and stuck to its strategic decision-making process. While Bumrah’s absence is significant, the team’s management continues to prioritize long-term sustainability and player health over short-term gains.
