Glenn Maxwell once again showcased why he's known as "The Big Show," hammering an unbeaten 106 off just 49 balls in a Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025 clash between Washington Freedom (WSF) and Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) in Oakland(LAKR vs WAF).

What made this innings extraordinary was the composition of his runs Maxwell struck just two boundaries but launched a jaw-dropping 13 sixes, finishing with a stunning strike rate of 216.33. His explosive knock helped his side recover from early trouble and post a formidable total of 208/5.

JOINING THE ELITE: 8 T20 CENTURIES CLUB

With this innings, Maxwell notched up his eighth century in T20 cricket, equalling legends like Rohit Sharma, David Warner, Aaron Finch, Jos Buttler, and Michael Klinger for the joint-fourth-most centuries in the format. Only Chris Gayle (22), Babar Azam (11), and both Rilee Rossouw and Virat Kohli (9 each) have more T20 hundreds to their names.

A HISTORIC TRIPLE MILESTONE

Maxwell’s latest feat also cemented his place in cricket history. He became the first player ever to achieve a rare triple milestone in T20s:

  • - 10,500+ runs
  • - 170+ wickets
  • - 8+ centuries

He has over 10,500 runs and 178 wickets in T20 cricket, underlining his credentials as one of the most complete all-rounders in the game's shortest format.

CAPTAIN’S KNOCK UNDER PRESSURE

Taking over the captaincy duties from Steve Smith, who led Washington Freedom to the title last season, Maxwell walked in with his team in trouble at 68/4. Mitchell Owen had earlier provided a short burst of aggression with a quickfire 32 off 11 balls. However, it was Maxwell who turned the game on its head.

In the final over of the innings, Maxwell smashed Jason Holder for 26 runs, with support from Obus Pienaar (14\), guiding WSF to a strong finish.

DOMINANT START TO MLC 2025

Maxwell has hit the ground running in the 2025 MLC season. After three innings, he has scored 149 runs at a phenomenal average of 149.00 and a strike rate of over 204. His previous scores were 38\ and 5. He currently stands as the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament.

Under his leadership, Washington Freedom has had a mixed start with one win and one loss so far, but Maxwell’s form is a major positive going forward.
