Shivakumar stated that he considers this stadium as a "pride of Bengaluru and Karnataka," and therefore will keep the IPL matches at this stadium despite the recent concerns regarding the tragic crowd crush incident.
Shivakumar stated that the Government of Karnataka has taken the incident of the crowd crush very seriously and that the Government intends to increase safety regulations rather than move the matches away from this venue. The incident when 11 people lost their lives outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium during the post-game celebration following the victory of the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL Championship game.
Since that time, numerous media reports and multiple court hearings have shown that there were a number of significant safety lapses in crowd management, event planning, and emergency preparedness related to this tragedy.
A FIRM "NO" ON IPL MOVING LOCATIONS: SHIVAKUMAR
The Deputy CM of Karnataka made his assertion regarding the IPL while voting at the KSCA elections. He stated: "Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium and Karnataka will not lose the IPL. We will work hard to make sure that we never go through an incident such as the recent incident again."
The Deputy CM mentioned that the KSCA would introduce stricter crowd management at the venue for all future events.
Futuristically, Deputy CM Shivakumar announced the government's intention to build a larger stadium for cricket outside of Bengaluru. There will be two main cricket venues for Karnataka - Chinnaswamy and the new stadium. The Deputy CM committed to promoting women cricketers in Karnataka and providing them more opportunities at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
