Brydon was born in South Africa and plays in England due to his ancestral visa. One of his grandparents was from England and he is the current Kolpak player for Durham. Making his first-class debut against Durham MCCU, Carse has been an injury prone player.
The right-arm fast bowler is more of the skiddy kind rather than a hit-the-deck. He started playing for Durham in 2016 and midway through sustained an injury. But his 17 wickets in 8 games ensured that the county side held on to him.
Carse has played very little in the following two years. In fact, only three games in total and that is because of his injuries. Whenever fit he turns up for Durham's second XI, but the county side would want him to stay fit for a longer period and make it to the first XI.
Carse made his ODI debut in July 2021 against Pakistan and in just his 3rd ODI managed to pick up a fifer. He also made a couple of appearances against Netherlands in the ODI series next year, but injuries denied him the chance to be a consistent feature of the English team. Carse made his T20I debut in August 2023 against New Zealand, and was the Man of the Match for picking 3/23.
In May, 2024 Carse was handed a 16-month ban (out of which 13 was suspended) for betting on cricket matches in 2017 and 2019. After serving the ban, Carse performed well in the 2024 Hundred season as well as the County Championship, and was rewarded with a Test call-up shortly after. He made his debut against Pakistan in the first Test in Multan, picking up 4/140 in the Test as England forced a result after the hosts had scored over 500 runs in the first innings. He played in the first Test against New Zealand as well in November at Hagley Oval, producing a Man of the Match performance in which he picked up 10 wickets..
