In light of escalating security concerns following recent military operations near the Line of Control (LoC), the 61st match of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI) has been moved from Dharamshala to Mumbai. The game, originally scheduled for May 11, will still take place on the same date but will not be held at the Wankhede Stadium.

According to sources, the match will likely be hosted either at the Brabourne Stadium or DY Patil Stadium, as Wankhede is unavailable for logistical reasons.

MILITARY ACTION PROMPTS WIDESPREAD PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES

This decision comes in the wake of Operation Sindoor, an Indian Army operation launched on May 7 in retaliation to coordinated terror attacks in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, including that of one Nepali national. In response, India executed missile strikes at nine strategic sites across Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan’s Punjab province.

With heightened military tension and a risk of escalation from the Pakistani side, several northern Indian airports—including Jodhpur and Rajkot—have been temporarily shut down to facilitate tight airspace monitoring.

DHARAMSHALA DEEMED HIGH-RISK ZONE

Given Dharamshala’s close proximity to the LoC—just around 60 kilometers away—authorities deemed it a high-security risk to host a public event of this scale. The safety of thousands of spectators in a floodlit stadium became a significant concern under current conditions.

UNCERTAINTY OVER UPCOMING MATCHES

The May 8 match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, also scheduled in Dharamshala, is currently under review. A final decision regarding its venue is expected soon, depending on the evolving security landscape.
