In an official statement, the BCCI announced that 17 matches will be played across six venues from May 17 to June 3, culminating in the final. The revised schedule includes two double-headers, both set to be held on Sundays.

Series name: IPL

The 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to resume on Saturday, May 17, after a temporary suspension due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. The league had come to an abrupt halt last week during the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, which was called off after just 10.1 overs in the first innings amid sudden security concerns.

CEASEFIRE PAVES THE WAY FOR IPL RESUMPTION

With both nations agreeing to a ceasefire following days of conflict, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that the league will restart with the fixture between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders, scheduled to be held in Bengaluru.

REVISED SCHEDULE AND FORMAT

In an official statement, the BCCI announced that 17 matches will be played across six venues from May 17 to June 3, culminating in the final. The revised schedule includes two double-headers, both set to be held on Sundays.

The revised schedule includes two double-headers, which will be played on two Sundays,” the BCCI confirmed.

Earlier reports suggested that the season could extend only until May 30, but the new schedule now confirms a slightly longer window. Teams, except for Punjab Kings, were instructed to report to their respective venues by Tuesday to ensure the season could restart smoothly by Friday. The BCCI has also asked franchisees to coordinate travel plans with their foreign players.

ABANDONED MATCH TO BE REPLAYED

The incomplete match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala will be restarted from scratch.

The game had been halted dramatically, with players, officials, and fans evacuated rapidly due to emergency alerts. According to eyewitness reports, some players were even seen returning to their hotels still wearing their batting pads.

AIRPORTS REOPENED AND LOGISTICS RESUMED

In a key logistical development, all 32 Indian airports that were temporarily shut, including those in Chandigarh and Dharamsala, have now been reopened, enabling the safe and swift movement of teams and officials.

BCCI’S STANCE: ‘NATION FIRST’

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia addressed the suspension in an earlier statement, affirming that the Board's decisions would always prioritize the nation's interests:

" While cricket remains a national passion, there is nothing greater than the nation and its sovereignty, integrity, and security. The BCCI remains firmly committed to supporting all efforts that safeguard India.”

He added that the decision to pause the tournament was made after thorough consultation with franchises, broadcasters, and sponsors. Many franchise representatives had conveyed concerns on behalf of their players regarding safety and travel.

TRIBUTE TO THE ARMED FORCES

Saikia also paid tribute to the Indian Armed Forces and their role in Operation Sindoor, launched in response to recent aggression from Pakistan and a terrorist attack:

We express our solidarity with the Government of India, the Armed Forces, and the people of our country. The Board salutes the bravery, courage, and selfless service of our armed forces, whose heroic efforts continue to protect and inspire the nation.
