In a mid-season shuffle, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed South African batting prodigy Dewald Brevis as a replacement for the injured Gurjapneet Singh for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season.
A RISING STAR JOINS THE YELLOW BRIGADE
Often referred to as ‘Baby AB’ for his striking resemblance in style to South African legend AB de Villiers, Brevis brings explosive firepower to CSK’s batting lineup. The 21-year-old has already made a name for himself on the global T20 stage, playing 81 matches and scoring 1,787 runs, including a sensational top score of 162.
Brevis made his T20I debut for South Africa in 2023 and has represented his country in two international matches so far.
FRANCHISE EXPERIENCE ACROSS THE GLOBE
Brevis’s talent has seen him feature in top T20 leagues across the world. He has previously turned out for teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Major League Cricket (MLC), and South Africa's SA20 league.
His recent performance in the 2025 SA20 season was especially noteworthy. Representing MI Cape Town, Brevis finished as the sixth-highest run-scorer, accumulating 291 runs at a blistering strike rate of 184.17. His contributions were instrumental in leading the team to their maiden SA20 title.
BACK IN THE IPL – THIS TIME IN YELLOW
Brevis was earlier part of the Mumbai Indians squad, where he made 10 appearances. Now, CSK have secured his services for a fee of Rs 2.2 crore, aiming to inject fresh energy and firepower into the side following the unfortunate injury to Gurjapneet Singh.
With CSK pushing for a strong finish in the 2025 campaign, Brevis’s arrival could prove to be a game-changing move.
