Born in Pietermaritzburg, Sarel Erwee is a left-handed batsman and a right-arm off-break bowler who plays for KwaZulu Natal. With a first-class best of 200*, Erwee who looks pretty young, made his debut in 2008. In the Provincial Three-Day Challenge match at Durban, Erwee scored 8 runs in his debut innings but didn't get a chance to bat in the second innings as day 3 of that match was washed out due to rain. The top-order batsman would have wished for a better start to his career but he did make the most out of the opportunities that were presented to him thereafter.
Playing for the Dolphins, Erwee has been an award winning opening batsman as he has scored heavily; for the same reason he was also a part of the South Africa A side that toured India In July 2018. Erwee agrees that he has been a late bloomer in his cricket career and is thankful to his family and friends for having showed the faith in him when he was going through a lean patch. The southpaw had also thought of quitting cricket once, as he thought his career had come to a standstill but due to the encouragement by his closed ones, he didn't do so. Without their support, it would have been very difficult for him to keep going is what the left-handed batsman says.
Sarel Erwee has a T20 century to his name that came against Cape Cobras in the 2017-18 edition of Ram Slam T20 Challenge. Besides that, 2017 proved to be a fruitful year for the top-order batsman as he cracked two impressive centuries and won the Hong Kong Sixes tournament for South Africa with his explosive hitting..
