Another to the addition of exciting spinners from Afghanistan, Qais Ahmad is a feisty leggie from Nangarhar. Despite being in his teens still, he’s already shown his wares across the globe in franchise T20 leagues. Qais already has a contract in PSL, CPL and BBL apart from other leagues. A potent wicket-taker by design, he has a rhythmic action and a fine repertoire of variations, all delivered from a slightly flatter trajectory (like Rashid Khan who has introduced this trend among Afghanistan bowlers). Apart from his energetic bowling displays, Qais is also well-known for his acrobatic celebrations when he picks up a wicket. His reverse-somersault is a highly popular move and in years to come, could be one that international cricket shall witness regularly. Qais can also be a handy batsman down the order with his
slogging but it’s primarily as a bowler that he continues to thrive. There are still areas for him to work on but then, he also has age on his side. One thing is for certain, Afghanistan’s spin reserve is an immeasurable resource with men like Qais and Zakir (left-arm wrist-spinner) in the wings.
